Galaxy S7 with its Snapdragon 820

Qualcomm Snapdragon processor 820 would eventually be used on half the units of Galaxy S7, alternating with the Exynos 8890 processor that Samsung would obviously difficult to mass produce.

Galaxy Snapdragon S7 820

If last month, it said that the Snapdragon 820 version of the Galaxy S7 would be distributed exclusively in the USA and China, Samsung could eventually expand to other markets. After only used his own Soc with the Galaxy S6 and its variants, next year, the Korean should use both his and Qualcomm and above all equally. Two processors that will anyway be engraved in 14 nanometers by the Korean itself.

New information that changes slightly since the previous provides, for the moment, it is not yet clear which model will be marketed in Europe. We will not be surprised if Samsung decides to market the version Snapdragon 820 in the US since its modem is compatible with all 4G frequencies used by US operators. However, the source also confirms that, like the Soc Qualcomm, the Exynos 8890 will offer a 4G modem Class 12 is a flow rate of 600 Mbps.

In this case, moreover, why choose two different processors? Well, simply because the performance of the Exynos 8890 with mass production has just started would not be enough. Probably the reason why the Korean have decided to adopt a 50/50 ratio for both versions, as he did also to Galaxy Note 4.

The release date of Samsung Galaxy S7 seems planned for the month of February with an official announcement which is expected in January. A schedule change to stay ahead of competitors, mostly, enjoy the MWC 2016 to announce their new flagships.

Nexus 5X vs Galaxy S6 Camera, LG G4 Camera and iPhone 6S Camera: who makes the best photos

The Nexus 5X today confronts three of its competitors who are none other than the Galaxy S6, the iPhone 6S and the LG G4. Who makes the best picture of the day and night?

Unlike LG G4 and Galaxy S6, Nexus 5X does not offer OIS optical stabilization, however, its 12.3 megapixel image sensor offers large photosites of 1.55 microns which allow it to capture more light, all accompanied by a dual LED flash and a laser autofocus.

For its part, the Galaxy S6 Camera outfit a 16 megapixel photo sensor aperture f / 1.9 with OIS optical stabilization. The LG G4 Camera features a 16 megapixel photo sensor aperture f / 1.8 with OIS optical and laser stabilization and autofocus, the iPhone 6S Camera of 12 megapixel photo sensor aperture f / 2.2 with dual LED flash. According DxOMark, the photo sensor of the iPhone 6S is below that offer its Android competitors. We will now be able to do our own idea.

Indoors, where the light is good, all four sensors offers good performance. We notice some differences but nothing really alarming, the quality is there for all of them. Outside, the Nexus 5X the photo sensor stands out by offering brighter colors. At night, things get a little complicated. The LG G4 sometimes tends to overexpose is particularly visible in the latest picture. More generally, his three rivals are doing better in low light while it is he who is supposed to offer the best opening.

Macro, Nexus 5X really shows its potential. Ditto for the Galaxy S6 which remains one of the best in the market, although since the photo sensor of the Sony Xperia Z5 passed him on DxOMark. The iPhone 6S is struggling but still offers a correct result, even if the level of detail offered is not up to its competitors.

First test of Google Nexus 5X: we take the same and start again?

I do not know about you but when I discovered the Nexus 5X for the first time I had such a sense of Already Seen. The new opus Nexus, manufactured by LG, recalls indeed at any point his predecessor. A sort copy, clone the first Nexus 5. But do not worry, it was my first impression. So I took out the phone in hand after his announcement in San Francisco. Is the new Google smartphone stamped worthy successor to the Nexus 5? Here is my answer.

Updated: orders for the Nexus 5X open since this morning. The first deliveries will begin on 9 November.

Google Nexus 5X - Release date and price

The new Nexus 5X is available from 527 Dollar for the 16GB version and 582 Dollars for the 32GB version. Pre-orders are possible from November 2 with a delivery date scheduled for November 9. All people pre-order the phone before November 8 will receive a free Chromecast.

The Nexus 5X is available in three different colors: Carbon, Quartz, and Ice Blue.

Google Nexus 5X - Design and finishing

Just a quick glance to realize that the Nexus 5X is a Google Product smartphone. It's not only the inscription "Nexus" in large on the back of the mobile which gives that impression but the characteristics of the mobile forms. We find indeed in its grip same sensation original Nexus 5 with its curved edges, which makes it more ergonomic and less slippery smartphone.

The same feeling of familiarity is present with the plastic design of the rear facade of the Nexus 5X, which hosts this time a fingerprint reader and a more prominent camera.

Personally, I do not find very attractive black edges around the screen. They are very thin and seem to occupy space unnecessarily. It's disappointing because the smartphone could have been smaller.

The design of the Nexus 5X is classic

With its 5.2-inch screen, the Nexus 5X is positioned as a competitor upscale compact smartphones but its design makes it slightly bigger than smartphones offering the same screen size. Pity. However, despite its larger dimensions (147 x 72.6 x 7.9 mm) to the Nexus 5, the phone thinner.

Despite these criticisms, power and volume buttons are placed on the right side and are easily accessible with the thumb, just like the fingerprint reader on the back. The latter is functional and can be used without problems. Although obviamente, it can be used to unlock the smartphone. Its use is also very convenient.

As for the assembly of the Nexus 5X, he is impeccable but is however not at the level of the most high-end smartphones like the Nexus 6P, true high-end Mountain View. The Nexus 5X is more aimed at people looking for a classic smartphone and can be customized easily. It would have been surprising that both Nexus launched this year also similar.

Google Nexus 5X - Screen

With the Nexus 5X, Google and LG did not want to propose yielded too smartphone. The phone thus offers an IPS LCD Full-HD 5.2 inch (423 dpi). He is also wearing a protective glass Gorilla Glass 3. On the art, glass has a 40% chance to ignore the shock impact to ~ one meter in height. It is regrettable that this is not a Gorilla Glass 4 that is offered on the Nexus 5X.

While some will be disappointed not to see the QHD on the Nexus 5X, this Full HD resolution is more than enough to offer a very decent image quality. It also has the advantage of consuming far less resources than Quad-HD and therefore offer greater autonomy.
Edges of the screen of the Nexus 5P
The edges of the screen of the Nexus 5P have benefited from being thinner.

The design of the Nexus 5X that the screen never touches the media when the smartphone is placed on a table. The edges of the screen are slightly raised effect. This certainly can effectively protect the screen from scratches and bad shots but it's really not very nice aesthetically.

Otherwise, the screen is generally good. Nexus 5X brightness is sufficient. The colors are true to life and the viewing angles are very stable. But honestly, these are the things that we were right to expect for a Nexus phone.

Google Nexus 5X - Software Interface

The Nexus 5X, with the Nexus 6P, is the first smartphone in the world to offer Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the latest version of the mobile OS from Google. So you can enjoy before everyone novelties Marshmallow: applications permissions management, the introduction of a menu dedicated to the management of RAM, fast customization parameters of the status bar, the return of vertical scrolling in the drawer of apps, "Now on Tap" ...

It is also the advantage of having stock Android, the purest and most faithful of our preferred system release. It is the advantage of not having a whole lot of preinstalled applications that you can not delete. Google can even uninstall the ones you do not want.
Nexus 5X app
Google now lets you uninstall its applications.

The Nexus 5P also includes a fingerprint reader, a first for the Nexus range. Marshmallow Android is now compatible and offers more features, like to pay with its Android smartphone via Pay.
Sensor adjustment is in seconds, the detection time when placing the finger should be only 600 milliseconds. Anyway, the release process was very quick although I would not say he was not faster than the OnePlus 2, the Huawei Mate S or Honor 7.

Another feature that deserves mention, and which will surely attract the media's attention in the coming days, is the feature on Tap Now, the new generation of intelligent wizard Google.

Google Nexus 5X - Performances

It is difficult to talk about performance when the smartphone was held only ten minutes in his hands. At this stage, I would describe the new Nexus as commonplace. The experience was fluid. Switching between applications is made naturally and scrolling application drawer encountered no lag.

Unfortunately I was not able to play complex games to test its graphics capabilities and strength. Further testing will be needed to definitively judge the beast.
Google Nexus 5X - Performances
In profile, the Nexus 5X much like its predecessor.

For those who want to know what the Nexus 5X hides under its hood, know that it features a Snapdragon 808 processor with 2GB of RAM LPPDR3. As for the graphics chip is the same Adreno 418 that the LG G4 that goes up 155.5 GFlops. Good enough for every turn.

Google Nexus 5X - Camera

Let's face it. Nexus devices are not traditionally known for the quality of their photos. We do not know what the reason, but Google does not seem to lose much time and resources on developing performance sensors. LG has yet revealed in 2015 one of the best camera phones on the market with the LG G4 and expectations were quite high for the Nexus 5X.

Unfortunately, we are not satisfied and the Nexus 5X camera seems to have inspired the philosophy of HTC and its race megapixels. The back camera of the Nexus 5X is a 12.3 megapixel f / 2.0 can record video in Ultra-HD / 4K at 30 fps and 300 fps in 720p HD. It is accompanied by a laser autofocus which improves the speed of development when taking pictures and videos.

Alas, the Nexus 5X does not offer optical image stabilization. Google believes that the phone is able to compensate this lack with fast laser autofocus. The problem is that the promise is not required, especially in low light conditions. Taking pictures is done by hand very quickly. A more thorough test we will confirm (or not).

A 12.3-megapixel sensor for the Nexus but no 5X optical image stabilizer.

To the front, we are before a front sensor of 5 megapixels, whose opening is f / 2.2 and 1.4μm pixels. A cut above the 2013 model.

We look forward to receiving the smartphone in the office to be able to test all the performance and take more pictures in different lighting conditions.

Google Nexus 5X - Autonomy

We arrived at the wound all the Nexus range, the Achilles heel of Google: the battery. The first Nexus 5, like its predecessor, the Nexus 4, we were hugely disappointed on that part.

Fortunately, Google and LG have sent their newborn for review to enable it to gain a swift endurance. Thus we have to deal with a 2700 mAh battery for the Nexus 5X. In short, it is 400 mAh more and difference to the battery of Nexus stopped in May 2013 to 2300 mAh but it is not exceptional. Today, there are indeed many smartphones, some of which are more affordable than the Nexus 5X, which offer much larger batteries. I am thinking here in Honor 6, Honor 7, Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3.

However, it is important to remember that the version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow improves standby particular. The Nexus also has a 5X perfect optimization between its hardware part and software part. What ultimately expect good results.

During our grip, it was unfortunately not possible to test the autonomy of Nexus 5X. We hope to soon test its strength when we have the smartphone in the office.

First verdict of the Nexus X

How to judge the Nexus 5 after a first grip? I would say that the smartphone is discreet. He is a younger clone of the first Nexus 5. Moreover, it is in these terms that Google introduced the smartphone speaking rejuvenation.

Aesthetic differences are not very numerous, or almost absent. But that's not necessarily bad. The Nexus 5X than its predecessor on two points: the battery and the camera. In both areas, there is hope, but only a detailed test of the Nexus 5X will be able to provide more information.

The price however for Europe calls me and tells me that competition will be fierce for the Nexus 5X. He will face cheaper phones like the Honor 7 or OnePlus 2. competition as the Nexus 5 was not in 2013.

Personally, I'm not too hard on the Nexus 5X because I like to benefit from the latest version of Android 6.0 Marsmallow in its purest experience. Lovers of the Nexus 5 will also find their account with this new generation, even if the price is increasing.
